FAQ on the M.Phil/Ph.D Program offered by IRSC

1. What is IRSC?
IRSC is INC Research Staff College. It is a constituent of INC. It provides academic, research and placement support for the students of the M.Phil/Ph.D Program.

2. What programs are offered by the IRSC?
IRSC offers the M.Phil/Ph.D Program.

3. What is the duration of the program?
Normally a student is required to complete the M.Phil/Ph.D Program in four years duration.

4. On successful completion of the program, what certifications does the student get?
A student is required to successfully complete two semesters of coursework, Ph.D qualifying examination, M.Phil thesis and the Pedagogical Training during the first 15 months. On successful completion, a student is awarded the M.Phil degree by the ICFAI University, Tripura. The student shall also get a certificate of management teaching from the IRSC. After successfully completing the Ph.D requirements, a student is awarded the Ph.D degree by the ICFAI University, Tripura.

5. What is the role of IRSC?
IRSC offers academic, research and placement support to the students of the Doctoral Program.

6. Who are eligible for admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D. program?
Candidates having a two year post-graduate degree/diploma with 55% and above in Management, Statistics, IT, Commerce, Economics or Psychology are eligible for admission in to the program.

7. What is the cost of application?
The cost of the application is Rs. 600/-(Rupees Six Hundred only)

8. Who are exempted from DAT?
Candidates who have following valid scorecards are exempted from appearing for DAT.
. 75th Percentile and above in CAT
. Composite score of 550 and above in GMAT
. 75th Percentile and above in XAT
. Qualified in UGC Net examination
. Qualified in RAPT conducted by IBS in the last one year
. Qualified in IBSAT 2007 conducted by IBS
. MBA Alumni of INC with CGPA of 9.0 and above.

9. Is there any age limit for admission to the Doctoral Program?
Candidate should preferably be between 22-30 years of age.

10. What are the requirements on the day of DAT examination?
A candidate appearing for DAT examination should produce admit card to the invigilator. In case the admit card does not carry the photograph, a separate photo identity card such as driving license, PAN card, credit card, passport etc should be produced. A candidate can download the admit card from the website www.incindia.org.

11. Where do we access the results for DAT? The results of the DAT shall be published on www.incindia.org on the specified date printed in the application material.

12. What is the admission process?
The admission process consists of:
. Doctoral Aptitude Test (DAT)
. Past -Academic Record
. English Language Proficiency Test
. Micro Presentation
. Interview
Appropriate weightages are assigned to each of the above components and the composite score is computed based on the applicant's performance. Final admission is strictly based on merit.

13. What is Doctoral Aptitude Test?
The Doctoral Aptitude Test (DAT) is an admission test for candidates seeking admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D Program offered by the IRSC. The duration of the test is 3 hours. It consists of multiple choice questions to test the students ability in quantitative techniques, data interpretation, data adequacy, vocabulary, and writing ability, analytical reasoning and reading comprehension.

14. What is English Language Proficiency Test?
English Language Proficiency Test is conducted to test the written communication skills of a candidate. A candidate has to write an essay of 500 words in 45 minutes on a topic announced at the time of test.

15. Can I know more details about the Micro Presentation?
Micro Presentation is conducted to assess the conceptual knowledge, oral communication skills and presentation skills of a candidate. Each candidate will be given about 5-7 minutes time to make a presentation to the interview panel on a topic chosen by the applicant from among the list provided in advance. There will be question and answer session for 3-4 minutes after the presentation. LCD will be provided to enable make the candidates to PowerPoint presentations.

16. Can I know more about the Preliminary Interview?
Preliminary Interview is conducted to assess an applicant's competence in the domain area, assess his motivation, attitude and aspiration to pursue the M.Phil/Ph.D program.

17. What is the Financial Aid offered to the students of the Doctoral Program?

Year I

Will be offered a fellowship of Rs. 20,000 per month.

Year II

Those who successfully qualify in the M.Phil Program, the pedagogical training and the Ph.D qualifying examination will be posted to INC campuses as Research Fellow and shall be paid a fellowship of Rs. 22,500 per month.

Year III

&

Year IV

 

Those who successfully complete the second year will be offered a fellowship of Rs. 25,000 per month.


In addition to the above, students are given a professional development grant of Rs. 10,000 per annum.

18. Is there any tuition fee to be paid?
The program carries a tuition fee of Rs. 60,000 per semester. However the tuition fee is waived in respect of the students who are availing financial support from IRSC and execute an agreement to serve INC for a period of five years after the award of Ph.D Degree.

19. How is the candidate placed after successful completion of M.Phil/Ph.D Program?
All candidates who are awarded Ph.D degree by ICFAI University, Tripura shall be absorbed by INC as Assistant Professors for which the current gross emoluments are Rs. 35,000 per month.
